How Do I Make My System Fast!
In general Computers run only as fast as the slowest moving part of the computer.
So here are some points to be clear on, in order of importance.
1. If you have your system tray full of icons then most likely you are running many operations in the background that you do not need. Before up grading the hardware make sure that no unneeded software is taking up processor time. If programs are running as tasks then they are taking up processor time( see April 2000 tip to find out how to shut off tasks ).
2. Whether you have e 400 KHz or 2GiGhz Processor the processor speed is not as important as the speed you process data from the hard drive to memory and back. You will see a better increase in speed for the money by upgrading a slow moving hard drive with a high throughput drive running at 7200 or 10,000 RPM.
3. If you are looking for internet speed then remember that the dial up connection as well as the quality of the phone line are very important and you may need both of the above to increase you throughput.
